2026 Asia-Pacific Idle Industrial Asset Virtual Auction & "Equipment Bank" Launch
Organizer: Asia-Pacific Industrial Manufacturing Association (APIMA)
Dates: May 18 – May 20, 2026
Location: Online Platform (Zoom + Dedicated Matching System) & Satellite Live Studio (Johor, Malaysia)
Scale: Attracted 300+ buyers and 150+ sellers across the Asia-Pacific region.
I. Background
In early 2026, influenced by adjustments in global supply chains, the Asia-Pacific region witnessed a surge in idle high-precision equipment resulting from production line upgrades or factory closures (e.g., CNC machines, SMT placement machines, injection molding machines). Traditional second-hand markets suffered from information asymmetry, difficult quality inspection, and expensive cross-border logistics. To address this, APIMA hosted a virtual auction in May and officially launched the industry-first "Equipment Bank" platform, aiming to revitalize existing assets and lower the entry barrier for SMEs.
II. Core Highlights
1. Launch of the "Equipment Bank" Platform
APIMA officially released the APIMA Equipment Bank (AEB). Beyond facilitating second-hand equipment trading, the platform innovatively introduced "Lease-to-Own + Buyback" services. This allows SMEs to gain access to high-end equipment with minimal down payments, significantly alleviating cash flow pressure.
2. Cloud-Based Live Auction
Moving beyond static web listings, this auction utilized a "Live On-site Streaming" model. Sellers conducted live power-on tests while equipment was idling, buyers interacted via real-time chat, and an auctioneer closed deals online. Featured lots included:
- 3 units: 2023 FANUC Robodrill α-D21MiB machining centers
- 1 line: 2024 complete Lithium-ion Battery Module PACK Assembly Line (with MES interface)
3. One-Stop Cross-Border Logistics & Compliance
APIMA partnered with DBS Bank (Singapore) and Kuehne+Nagel, providing transaction parties with an integrated service covering "Trade Assurance + Cross-Border Settlement + Pre-verification for Used Machinery Import Compliance." This resolved the biggest pain points in cross-border used equipment transactions.
III. Results (Post-Event Report)
Metric Result Data
Total Transaction Volume (GMV) USD 12.5 Million
Highest Single Transaction A 5-axis machining center sold for USD 1.8 Million
Revitalized Idle Assets 87 units/sets, total weight exceeding 400 tons
Logistics Intent Contracts Kuehne+Nagel secured 60% of cross-border shipping orders
IV. Client Testimonial
Procurement Director, Vietnam Electronics Contract Manufacturer:
"We urgently needed to expand SMT capacity, but the lead time for new machines was six months. Through APIMA's cloud auction, we acquired a 2024-model idled line from a Korean factory at only 40% of the new machine price. APIMA also handled the complex import filing for used machinery in Vietnam. It was exceptionally efficient."
V. Next Steps
Following the success of this event, APIMA announces the upcoming "2026 Asia-Pacific Physical Equipment Expo" to be held in Osaka, Japan in November 2026. The expo will allow buyers to conduct on-site machine trials and inspections.
